• Jessie Schlosser Smith (she/her)

    DIRECTOR

    As Director of Open Space Programming at MIT, Jess works closely with collaborators to create welcoming, inclusive programs designed to engage the MIT, Cambridge, and Kendall Square communities.

    With a background in arts and culture, Jess has worked at many non-profit arts organizations, including the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, where she served as Director of Public Programs.

    Jess’s undergraduate studies took place at the University of New Hampshire, where she studied English and studio art. She completed her master’s degree in Public Humanities at Brown University.

  • Sasha Martin (she/her)

    ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

    Sasha is passionate about building community through public programming and placemaking, and believes in the power of public spaces to combat isolation and increase belonging.

    Prior to joining the Open Space Programming team, Sasha worked in live events in Washington, D.C., where she produced concerts, comedy shows, and live podcast tapings in an 800-seat historic synagogue.

    Sasha grew up in Jamaica Plain, MA and studied Sociology at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA.

  • Anna Richardson (she/they)

    VISITOR EXPERIENCE AND EVENTS MANAGER

    Anna believes that people need the arts, and has spent their entire career finding ways to bring their events expertise to help facilitate that need. On the Open Space Programming team, she plans to continue the important work of making events safe and streamlined, and ensuring that the Welcome Center is accessible and comfortable to visitors.

    Anna earned their BA in French literature at Goucher College, and has over a decade of experience in theatrical and orchestral stage management, events management, and arts administration. She is a writer, director, dancer, actor, and French-speaker.

  • Emily Hollett (she/her)

    OPERATIONS AND VISITOR EXPERIENCE COORDINATOR

    Emily values making people's visits to MIT enjoyable experiences. As a Operations and Visitor Experience Coordinator, Emily is excited to greet visitors, answer their questions, and work on projects behind the scenes!

    Prior to working at MIT, Emily studied communications and professional writing at Framingham State University and worked as a real estate agent in Brewster, MA.

  • Rachel Watts (she/her)

    PROGRAM COORDINATOR

    Coming from a background in the restaurant industry and the theatre, Rachel has a passion for hospitality. She brings this to her work on the Open Space Programming team by building relationships with collaborators, caterers, and the Cambridge community.

    She enjoys problem-solving and working on program logistics, even when the task is as simple as buying popcorn for family movie nights.

  • Maddy Stratten (they/them)

    PROGRAM ASSOCIATE

    With a background in educational programming and a love for the arts, Maddy is passionate about building community through fun and inclusive programming. Whether the focus is on cultural celebration, arts and crafts, or networking with neighbors, they strive to bring a moment of joy to every program attendee.

    Maddy grew up in Woodbridge, VA and studied Anthropology at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. 

  • Noah Phoenix (he/they)

    COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE

    Noah is a jack-of-all-things digital storyteller and multidisciplinary artist from the ever changing world of arts and culture marketing and event creation. As the newest and most extroverted member of the Open Space Programming team, he is delighted for the chance to document and contribute to the dynamic sandbox of community programming here in the MIT Welcome Center and in the Kendall/MIT Open Space.

    Their day to day includes all things words, graphic design, social media management, illustration, and professional whimsy. Their spare time is taken up by new conversations in ASL, French, and Spanish, folk music and dance, and performance art of many kinds.
